Opened in November 1999, the Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg/Vienna, housing the collection of Karlheinz and Agnes Essl, affords a unique survey of contemporary art. In 35 years of passion for art, a collection of more than 6,000 items was brought together, which includes not only paintings and sculptures, but also photography, video, and new media.
Das Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg wurde im November 1999 eröffnet und ermöglicht mit der Sammlung von Agnes und Karlheinz Essl einen unvergleichlichen Blick auf die Kunst der Gegenwart. 35 Jahre Kunstleidenschaft haben die Sammlung auf über 6.000 Werke anwachsen lassen. Vertreten sind nicht nur Malerei und Skulptur, sondern auch Fotografie, Video und neue Medien.

Museum owner and collector Karlheinz Essl takes visitors on a tour of a self-curated exhibition entitled “The Collection” and gives an insight into the museum repository. The current show presents a varied and diverse selection of works with a multiple focus on different art nations, which gives an idea of the depth and breadth of the collection. Featured in the exhibition are, aside from other artists, Herbert Brandl, Franz West, Antoni Tàpies, Alex Katz, and Fang Lijun.

Der Sammler Karlheinz Essl führt durch die von ihm kuratierte Ausstellung „Die Sammlung“ und gewährt Einblick in das Kunstdepot. Die aktuelle Schau zeigt eine kontrastreiche Werkauswahl, die mit Länderschwerpunkten die Tiefe der umfangreichen Sammlung erkennen lässt. Neben anderen Künstlern sind Herbert Brandl, Franz West, Antoni Tàpies, Alex Katz und Fang Lijun vertreten.
