The Leopold Museum, established 2001 to accommodate the formerly private art collection of Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold, today houses the world’s largest Egon Schiele collection and a number of major works by Gustav Klimt. Moreover, the holdings comprise 19th and 20th century paintings, graphic art, and objects, including precious arts-and-crafts items and original Art Nouveau and Wiener Werkstätte furniture.
Aus der ehemals privaten Kunstsammlung von Rudolf und Elisabeth Leopold entstand 2001 das Leopold Museum, das heute die weltgrößte Egon-Schiele-Sammlung und Hauptwerke von Gustav Klimt beherbergt. Darüber hinaus sind Gemälde, Grafiken und Objekte des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts zu sehen, darunter kostbares Kunsthandwerk und originales Mobiliar des Jugendstils und der Wiener Werkstätte.

Presentation of rarely shown Schiele works and autographs and presentation of the “Egon Schiele Database” by museum director Rudolf Leopold
FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2008, 3:00–5:00 P.M.
In the center of the presentation is the research project of the “Egon Schiele Database,” which explores a hitherto little known aspect of the artist, namely, his autographs (letters, poems) and separate prints. This will be followed by a shortguided tour to selected Schiele paintings in the context of the artist’s letters and an exclusive insight into the museum’s comprehensive autograph collection with Rudolf and Elisabeth Leopold. Präsentation von selten gezeigten Schiele-Blättern und -Autographen und Vorstellung des Forschungsprojekts „Egon-Schiele-Datenbank“ durch den Museumsleiter Rudolf Leopold

Vorgestellt wird das neue Forschungsprojekt „Egon-Schiele-Datenbank“, das eine bisher wenig bekannte Seite des Künstlers behandelt, nämlich seine Autographen (Briefe, Gedichte) und Separata. Im Anschluss daran gibt es eine Kurzführung zu ausgewählten Schiele-Gemälden im Kontext der Briefe des Künstlers und exklusive Einblicke in den umfangreichen Autographenbestand des Museums mit Rudolf und Elisabeth Leopold.
