Opened in November 1999, the Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg/Vienna, housing the collection of Karlheinz and Agnes Essl, affords a unique survey of contemporary art. In 35 years of passion for art, a collection of more than 6,000 items was brought together, which includes not only paintings and sculptures, but also photography, video, and new media.
Das Essl Museum in Klosterneuburg wurde im November 1999 eröffnet und ermöglicht mit der Sammlung von Agnes und Karlheinz Essl einen unvergleichlichen Blick auf die Kunst der Gegenwart. 35 Jahre Kunstleidenschaft haben die Sammlung auf über 6.000 Werke anwachsen lassen. Vertreten sind nicht nur Malerei und Skulptur, sondern auch Fotografie, Video und neue Medien.

Opening: Exhibition opening »Aspects of Collecting«

For the ten-year anniversary of the opening of the Essl Museum in fall 2009, ten international exhibition institutions were invited to participate in an exhibition project entitled »Aspects of Collecting.« Each institution was given an art-purchasing budget with the director of each museum being responsible for the choice of the objects. The exhibition thus brought together will be first shown at the Essl Museum and then by some of the partner museums in a traveling exhibition.

Eröffnung: Ausstellung »Aspekte des Sammelns«

Anlässlich des zehnjährigen Bestehens des Essl Museums im Herbst 2009 wurden zehn internationale Ausstellungshäuser eingeladen, sich an der Schau »Aspekte des Sammelns« zu beteiligen. Jede Institution erhielt ein Budget für den Ankauf von Kunstwerken, wobei die Auswahl der Exponate dem jeweiligen Museumsdirektor oblag. Als erster Ausstellungsort fungiert das Essl Museum, anschließend werden die Werke in einigen Partnermuseen präsentiert.
