The Association of Visual Artists Vienna Secession was founded in 1897. In 1898 the building was completed to a design by Joseph M. Olbrich. The SECESSION is the oldest independent exhibition house explicitly devoted to contemporary art, the objective being the presentation of cutting-edge developments in Austrian and international art.
Die Vereinigung bildender KünstlerInnen Wiener Secession wurde 1897 gegründet. 1898 wurde das Gebäude nach Plänen von Joseph M. Olbrich fertiggestellt. Die SECESSION ist das älteste unabhängige Ausstellungshaus, das ausdrücklich der zeitgenössischen Kunst gewidmet ist. Hauptanliegen ist die Präsentation aktueller Entwicklungen in der österreichischen und internationalen Kunst.

Marc Camille Chaimowicz
Marc Camille Chaimowicz made his mark in the early 1970s with environments and interactive performances, whose poetic nature sets them distinctly apart from the purist representations of concept art and minimal art. Driven by the sustained interest in a sophisticated furnishing and lifestyle and the ambition of a total aesthetic, Marc Camille Chaimowicz’s recent artistic production features still-life-like arrangements, furniture sculptures, ornamental drawings and prototypes for decor fabrics, wallpapers and ceramics.
Marc Camille Chaimowicz, born in postwar Paris, lives and works in London and Burgundy.
Michael Ashkin
In his photographs and video works Michael Ashkin works on a new understanding of landscape that allows him to combine criticism and homage in a dialectic tension. A characteristic of his photographic surveys of desolate transit towns, devastated areas, and dismal industrial wastelands is a documentary strategy with which he semantically opens up the depicted topographies and declares them to be places of projection, of rest and reflection.
Michael Ashkin, born in Morristown/New Jersey in 1955, lives and works in New York.
Mona Vatamanu and Florin Tudor
The phenomena of forgetting and repressing recent history as a result of the dramatic political and social upheavals following the collapse of real communism in Romania are the focal issue in the works of Mona Vatamanu and Florin Tudor. The two artists often examine the trauma in post-socialist countries, that has frequently been noted in recent years, on the basis of architecture and urban planning.
Mona Vatamanu, born in Constanta in 1968, and Florin Tudor, born in Geneva in 1974, live in Bucharest and have been working together since 2000.

Marc Camille Chaimowicz profilierte sich in den frühen 1970er Jahren mit Environments und interaktiven Performances, die sich in ihrer Poetik deutlich von den puristischen Repräsentationen der Konzeptkunst und der Minimal Art abhoben. Getragen von dem anhaltenden Interesse an einem verfeinerten Einrichtungs- und Lebensstil und dem Ziel einer ästhetischen Gesamtheit, umfasst die jüngere künstlerische Produktion von Marc Camille Chaimowicz stilllebenartige Arrangements, Möbelskulpturen, ornamentale Zeichnungen und Prototypen für Dekorstoffe, Tapeten und Keramiken.
Marc Camille Chaimowicz, geboren im Paris der Nachkriegszeit, lebt und arbeitet in London und Burgund.

Michael Ashkin arbeitet in seinen Fotografien und Videoarbeiten an einem neuen Verständnis von Landschaft, welches es ihm erlaubt, Kritik und Hommage in einer dialektischen Spannung zu verbinden. Kennzeichnend für seine Bestandsaufnahmen von heruntergekommenen Durchzugsorten, verwüsteten Gegenden und trostlosen Industriebrachen ist eine dokumentarische Strategie, welche die dargestellten Topografien semantisch öffnet und zu Orten der Projektion, der Ruhe und des Nachsinnens erklärt.

Die Phänomene des Vergessens und Verdrängens der jüngsten Geschichte infolge der dramatischen politischen und sozialen Umwälzungen nach dem Zusammenbruch des real existierenden Kommunismus in Rumänien stehen im Zentrum der Arbeiten von Mona Vatamanu und Florin Tudor. Das Künstlerduo untersucht das in den letzten Jahren vielfach konstatierte Trauma in den postsozialistischen Ländern häufig anhand von Architektur und Städteplanung.
Mona Vatamanu, geboren 1968 in Konstanza, und Florin Tudor, geboren 1974 in Genf, leben in Bukarest und arbeiten seit 2000 zusammen.
