Who is playing?
Exhibitions act as canon makers; they help determine which works are talked about. At the first independent architecture biennial “The Presence of the Past” under Paolo Portoghesi in Venice, postmodernism made an impressive appearance. Hollein’s contribution, which was characterized by stylistic flashbacks and demonstrated irony by questioning the column as a supporting element, was one of the most convincing contributions to the so-called Strada Novissima. The Az W exhibition collection takes a fresh look at these and other legendary, but also at sometimes underestimated canon-forming exhibitions.
