EVENT LANGUAGE: ENGLISH

As part of the exhibition METAMORPHOSIS, curated by Livia Klein (*1996, AT), at Kunstraum SUSSUDIO (November 7 – 28, 2025), artists Melanie Ebenhoch (*1985, AT) and Paola Siri Renard (*1993, FR) will engage in a dialogical conversation moderated by the curator.

Drawing on the motif of metamorphosis as a state of suspension and in-between space, the exhibition explores how materials, bodies, and spaces enter into processes of mutual influence and thereby transform each other. Between intimacy and irritation, imagination and the uncanny, Melanie Ebenhoch and Paola Siri Renard investigate artistic strategies that dissolve traditional boundaries between subject and object, interior and exterior, knowledge and fiction.

In alignment with this year’s VIENNA ART WEEK theme, “Learning Systems,” the Artist Talk will address how these interactions can be understood as non-human, embodied learning systems. Central to the discussion will be reflections on how materials, bodies, and spaces store knowledge, negotiate meanings, and transform through processes of convergence and manipulation. The talk will also explore the shifting of interior and exterior spaces and raise questions about how architecture reflects psychological topographies, with materials and atmospheres functioning as alternative learning systems.

The talk invites visitors to consider perception as a dynamic, embodied form of learning – a learning that unfolds in the fractures, overlaps, and shifts of space, body, and meaning. Metamorphosis is thus understood not only as an aesthetic motif but as an epistemological gesture — a tactile, multifaceted navigation through fragile systems of perception, imagination, and experience.
