The tour offers a sensitive and critical look at various systems of learning and knowledge as they operate in connection with the construction, reconstruction, and maintenance of St. Stephen’s Cathedral.
In her commissioned work for the exhibition “Alles In Arbeit” (Work in Progress) at Dom Museum Wien, artist Iris Andraschek uses drawings and historical photographs and relics to process various narratives and images of St. Stephen’s that shaped many people’s relationships with the building, particularly after the fire in 1945.
Cathedral archivist Reinhard H. Gruber recounts the cathedral’s diverse history, the diverse (often contradictory) traditions surrounding it, and the challenges of working with and on historical knowledge. The tour also provides insight into the Cathedral Workshop, where centuries-old restoration and maintenance techniques are still applied and passed on today.
Registration required: FULLY BOOKED.
