EVENT LANGUAGE: GERMAN
Edith Payer transforms the KUNSTZELLE, which is already making history as a former phonebooth, into a time capsule. In the installation in “When things were smaller”, selected objects from the artist’s childhood are on display. There will be a selection curated by her, from jewelry, toys, letters and collections of the balls of ink cartridges, animal posters and much more. These exciting relicts from the 70s and 80s provide a personal insight into the private thoughts of a child and at the same time reflect the materiality of the capitalist-industrial society of the time.
At the opening Edith Payer will talk about her work, music cassettes recorded by her will be played and a small buffet with party mushrooms and pickers will be served to reminisce about old times. So memories (of older people) could be mixed with retro feelings (of younger people) in an exciting way.
KUNSTZELLE
The KUNSTZELLE, a former telephone box from the 1960s, stands prominently in the courtyard of the WUK Werkstätten- und Kulturhaus and has been a venue for artistic installations and interventions since 2006. The program is curated by initiator Christine Baumann together with Pablo Chiereghin. The KUNSTZELLE offers artists a pivotal point from which to address their work to a broad audience of visitors and passers-by and has been explored anew again and again for almost 20 years. In addition to artists with longer professional experience, students from the TransArts / die Angewandte class show selected works every three years.
