A project by VCAS – Vienna Contemporary Art Space and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Network Medicine.
X Frames Per Space is a group exhibition featuring invited and Open Call-selected artists who critically engage with processes of framing, visibility, and knowledge production.
In today’s flood of images, the frame often goes unnoticed – that inconspicuous excerpt that determines what becomes visible and what remains hidden.
X Frames Per Space addresses precisely this: we explore framings as a fundamental precondition for systems. Every selection, every limitation, every act of framing creates its own knowledge of the world – while excluding other perspectives.
X Frames Per Space understands framing as an essential process of learning: frames select information, structure perception, and shape our understanding of reality. In our exhibition, we embark on a journey through various framings – visual, medial, and societal – and reveal the mechanisms that silently govern our worldviews.
What happens when we begin to question these constructions? What alternative spaces of knowledge open up when we make the seemingly self-evident nature of framings visible?

WEST
The WEST is an interim use of the old WU. Together with people working in the arts and culture, the former business university on Althangrund is becoming a centre for creativity, culture and urbanity. People, projects and initiatives come together here to work, exchange ideas and further their education.
The WEST offers space for the new, the spectacular, the everyday and innovative ideas. Already four of the seven floors offer space for temporary offices and studios, workshops, seminars, events, exhibitions, symposia and talks.
