Helmut Ditsch (Buenos Aires 1962) moved to Austria in 1988, where he studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In 1997 he received a special prize from the Bauholding Kunstförderpreis, the predecessor of STRABAG Artaward International. Ditsch lives and works in Vaduz, Vienna and Argentina. His realistic, large-format landscape paintings form a unique position in international contemporary painting: rich in detail and worked in an extremely time-consuming glazing technique, Ditsch’s paintings have a breathtaking presence. As a passionate extreme mountaineer and sportsman, Helmut Ditsch finds the motifs for his paintings in areas that he himself has hiked through and experienced, such as the Perito-Moreno glacier in Argentina, mountain peaks in the Alps, or the desert of Death Valley.
