Has mankind had its day as the “crown of creation”? In the advancing Anthropocene, human-centered thinking and actions are contributing massively to the destruction of our basis of life. It is essential to understand ourselves as one of countless interdependent living beings on this planet. The underscore between HUMAN and NATURE in the exhibition title marks connection and blank space, at the same time highlighting the complex relationship between humans and nature.
With around 30 artistic positions, the members’ exhibition 2023 approaches this sometimes romantically exaggerated, sometimes toxic, far too rarely harmonious relationship. In addition, questions are raised about our understanding of man and nature in the digital age. With their transmedial works on HUMAN_NATURE, the artists of the Künstlerhaus Vereinigung open up a broad narrative field: they negotiate the status quo as well as dystopian and visionary ideas for the future, not missing gender-specific, ironic and humorous approaches. Visitors to the exhibition and the comprehensive supporting program (guided tours, talks, workshops, performances, free cinema, satellite events, and a day of action on September 16, 2023) are invited not only to read the offered narrative, but also to effectively inscribe themselves in it.
