Land of Lashes, the first solo exhibition of New York artist Rosemarie Castoro (1939–2015) in a German-speaking country, extends the interplay between sculpture, painting, and performance. Through her conceptual methodology, Castoro interpreted sculpture within her actional radius, writing her own personal narrative in the context of Minimal Art, Post-Minimal Art, Concept Art, and Feminism. Her works imitate the proportions of the human body and are “kinesthetic”—linked to the sensation of movement. They are designed to be set in motion. The artist was active in the circle of Carl Andre (to whom she was married between 1964 and 1970), Sol LeWitt, and Agnes Martin. She was inspired by modern dance and collaborated with choreographer Yvonne Rainer.

MAK – Museum für angewandte Kunst

The role of applied art in shaping our living spaces is the focus of the MAK, which operates at the interface of design, architecture and contemporary art in order to create new perspectives and explore borderline areas. The MAK aims to provide answers to the question of how design can help shape the world and expand possibilities for action and decision-making.
