EVENT LANGUAGE: GERMAN

Scribo is a tool that allows you to create sounds while drawing a picture in order to merge temporal and spatial dimensions. With Scribo it is possible to create drawings using a graphite pencil and/or conductive paint and to produce music at the same time. Synthesizers and sound software are controlled in the act of drawing. This relatively recent development is a powerful improvisation tool that places people in a creative network of spatial AND temporal dimensions.

In the creative and learning process, one is constantly faced with the decision of whether to further develop the music or complete the image content, and one strives to harmonize both, i.e. to place image and sound content in a meaningful correspondence. Music and image/drawing thus form an inseparable unit.

The following short video shows how it works: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luS3T0uW7LY

It is also an extraordinary learning tool that reveals the visual aspects of their art to musicians, and makes the rhythmic and sonic dimensions of their work audible to painters and illustrators. Visitors are welcome to drop by the wechselstrom gallery at their own pace to try out the tool. Depending on the frequency, sketches may last between 5 and 10 minutes. Paper, brushes, synthesizers, and other materials will be provided.

Galerie wechselstrom

“wechselstrom” was founded by Christoph Theiler and Renate Pittroff in 2004 and is based in Vienna’s 16th district. This is also the location of the off-space “galerie wechselstrom,” which is used as a workspace and temporary exhibition and performance space. Annual events include “Räume für Notizen” and the “Grundstein-Festival”.

In addition to works for theater and radio plays, “wechselstrom” is active in the fields of sound installation, media art, and social sculpture:

REPLY was a project for the Mozart Year, in which Mozart’s begging letters were sent once again under his own name to the 100 richest Germans and Austrians. SAMENSCHLEUDER aimed to transform automobile driving into an environmentally friendly activity. In the TRACKER DOG project, owners followed their dogs. New hiking maps for Lower Austria were created from the routes recorded with GPS. A PIEFKEDENKMAL was built in Gänserndorf near Vienna in 2009. It is a sound sculpture made of Corten steel.
