The gallery LAYR was founded as a continuation of the former gallery LayrWüstenhagen (2005-2011) 2011 by Emanuel Layr in Vienna, Austria. The gallery’s program focuses on the contextualization and confrontation of concepts and artistic manifestations of conceptual art with the relevant social, political and cultural issues of today. Starting from a city with a long history of oscillating between the hemispheres – East and West, North and South – the program strives for an interplay between artists of different generations and cultural or discursive backgrounds. The gallery exclusively represents the estate of the late Slovak neo-avant-gardist Stano Filko and the Belgian-American artist Cécile B. Evans. Since January 2017 it has been developing and operating a branch in Rome, Italy, which adds a further dimension of exchange, expansion and integration to its profile.

Christine König Galerie was founded in 1989 in Vienna. The gallery represents a variety of internationally recognized artists and works simultaneously with a decidedly younger generation of upcoming artists. The gallery’s program and its selection of the artists reflects the central concerns of Christine König: Politics and activism, feminism, literature, as well as post-conceptual approaches.
In the last decades art has become a dominant field of action and discourse. Visual arts can help develop an understanding for socio-political and cultural processes of change. In a highly stimulating and productive climate, galleries have assumed the role of intermediaries, making a preliminary selection and using their intellectual resources in a responsible way to back and promote certain positions and artists vis-à-vis collectors.
KOENIG2 by_robbygreif is a sealed exhibition room visible in its entirety from the exterior. In its focus on young artists the space acts as a counterpoint to the ongoing exhibition program at the main gallery. Installation by NATALIA GUROVA with the support of the Red Carpet Art Award and Marcello Farabegoli Project.
The Alte Landgut made its way back from royal realms to the area of the casinos in Vienna. The artist revives these historical traces in her work. To this end, she deals with the history of boredom (eccentricity, melancholy), which according to historians goes back several centuries. In different countries and times people have been bored in different ways. At the court of Louis XIV, “l’humeur noire” was initially characterised as the state into which courtiers fell during endless dinners. In Russia, on the other hand, melancholy determined existence? A gentleman like Oblomov preferred hibernation to vanity. Which in the XVIII century. The Austrian casinos flourishing in the XVIII century offered the chance to cope with existential boredom. They functioned according to a certain model: round house full of gambling tables. Roulette set the standard for the passing of time at the gambling table. The artist wants to find out how the state of boredom is reflected in the rituals of the Old Country Estate. The subway pays a bill for these rituals and carries away the burden of everyday life.
