PRINZpod
With the exhibition “Architektur am Spieß” (Architecture on a Spit), the gallery provides insights into the creative universe of the artist duo PRINZpod. With a selection of fantastic architectural models and collages of drawings with “textual extracts” (“Textauswürfen”) the gallery presents essential intersections of their so-called “PRINZpod network” (PRINZpod-Geflecht”).
The architectural models shown in the exhibition can be understood as explorations of the concept of architecture in the most general sense. They are material thought experiments, can be interpreted as reflections on space and surroundings, culture and nature, and play with terms such as “forced architecture” (Zwangsarchitektur), “panic architecture” or “complementary architecture”.The models, made from everyday found objects (e.g. cardboard boxes), lead us into a microcosm of its own and prove to be intellectual links between what is tangibly close and what is conceivably far away.
In their “Thing-word-metaphor art (Ding Wort Metaphern Kunst), PRINZpod include “what the day brings to their “cave” – empty boxes, wipes, word jokes, flowers, torn silk dresses, excavations and foreign rituals, structures of world”, as Daniela Hölzl aptly puts it.(1)
With their works, the artist duo questions the mechanisms of the avant-garde and reinvents itself in the concept of the “paragarde” as a counter-model to it.
The universe of PRINZpod seems like a neuronal network at whose junctions artistic expressions are released. Within this network, one cannot exist without the other. The exhibition provides new insights into this special universe of the artist duo through selected works.
