EXHIBITIONS

Contemporary Week at Dorotheum

Maria Lassnig (1919 – 2014), Auge

Zeitgenössische Kunst ist neben Werken der Moderne in der Auktionswoche von 23.-26. Juni 2020 im Dorotheum zu sehen.

Works by Keith Haring and A. R. Penck, among others, who work with strong visual effects and signs, can be discovered in the exhibition. Their works represented in the auction tie in with archaic signs and patterns. Modern hieroglyphics can be found on Keith Haring’s 1989, 75 cm high “pyramid sculpture” completed one year before his death. At his ecstatic celebration of life, some of the typical Haring symbols appear and take these figures – originally created for the New York subway system – to the next level.

Other pieces by pioneers of post-war modernism include works by Hans Hartung, Jesus Rafael Soto, Mario Schifano, Christian Boltanski and the recently deceased artist Christo. The contemporary art of Austria is represented by works of Maria Lassnig, Arnulf Rainer, Hans Bischoffshausen, Kurt Kocherscheidt, Hermann Nitsch and Gottfried Helnwein, among others.
