In a big “SHOW OFF”, the Viennese MAK transforms itself into a catwalk for revolutionary fashion designers linked to Austria. The works of 60 designers and 30 photographers offer an impressive overview of Austria’s influence on the international fashion scene.

Her fetish-inspired corsages are worn by international superstars like Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and FKA Twigs – Marina Hörmanseder is one of many Austrian designers whose revolutionary creations have stirred the international fashion scene.

In its newest exhibition „SHOW OFF. Austrian Fashion Design“, which will start on February 14, the MAK honors Marina Hörmanseder and other star designers, who were born in Austria, live here, or have been educated here.

Looking back over the last four decades, significant fashion statements by approximately 60 designers are exhibited.

“SHOW OFF. Austrian Fashion Designbegins with Rudi Gernreich’s late work, whose designs from LA in the late 1970s revolutionized the global approach to fashion, and Viennese U-fashion with its stars at the time, such as Ledea Muard, Marc Thomas Merz, or Schella Kann.

Viennese cult labels such as Wendy&Jim and fabrics interseason, “big player” Andreas Kronthaler, for the past two years part of the label “Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood,” and the renowned younger generation—represented in the exhibition among others by Kenneth Ize—contribute to the formation of a multifaceted scene with an international standing.

Additionally, works by 30 photographers give insight into Austrian fashion photography. Documentaries on legendary and formative events, magazines, and interviews give an impression of the social and cultural perception of fashion as a phenomenon.

Make sure to visit this brilliant „SHOW OFF“ of Austria’s vast contribution to the international world of style.
