The Heidi Horten Collection presents Elisabeth von Samsonow (*1956) in a comprehensive solo exhibition — the first to showcase her work in such depth and breadth. Sculptures, paintings, drawings, films, and a site-specific installation trace a journey from her early works to her most recent creations.
Building on this comprehensive presentation, Samsonow’s practice combines performative thinking with formal diversity: The earth as a source of energy and a space of memory,
the Gaia myth as a narrative horizon,
and wooden sculptures made of thousand-year-old linden wood
—the work moves confidently between art,
philosophy, and anthropology.
In addition to Samsonow’s works, pieces by Egon Schiele and German Expressionists from the collection enter into a complementary dialogue with her artistic position,
expanding the exhibition’s context.
