The artist and recipient of the STRABAG Artaward International Andrey Klassen and Sebastian Haselsteiner (Head of STRABAG Kunstforum) will guide you through the exhibition Séance.

In his first solo exhibition in Austria, Andrey Klassen presents recently created works. He describes his artistic approach as follows:

“I longed for peace rather than color and for asceticism in terms of technique – neither of which I found in painting but only encountered in drawing. However, draftsmanship in the classical sense was not enough for me; on the border line between painting and drawing, I stumbled upon ink painting, which I had previously only come across in art from Asia, and adapted it as my personal technique.

With ink on paper, it is possible to paint a picture, but also to write a book; that chimes very well with my approach, as I tell many stories in my images. In my works, I am like a scout, flashlight in hand and certain he knows the way, guiding the viewer towards the light, through an animated world of shadows flickering with life. It’s an adventure and a party for special guests.”
