Interactive Workshop & Instructions with Veronika Burger
Veronika Burger’s app Red Pinks! with embedded online-archive (2021–2023) is part of an artistic research project: How did resistance manifest itself in workers’ movements and how are these gestures passed on across generations? Burger has focused on an activity that – carried out by women – has mostly remained hidden: the production of red paper carnations – the central symbol of Austrian social democracy.
The workshop invites users to participate in the constant expansion of a resistant movement database. Individual video recordings of one’s own hands performing a memorized activity can be fed into the archive. Using similarity analysis, the app’s archive function makes the recorded and stored videos available to other users. On site, the instructions of the app Red Pinks! can be tried out together with artist Veronika Burger and collectively we will activate our own body memory to make women’s forgotten or unseen work visible.
