Opening: Tuesday, May 19, 7 p.m.
Welcome: Sira-Zoé Schmid, Bildrecht
About the work: Vanessa Joan Müller, curator and author
Emma Hummerhielm Carlén, runner-up of the PARALLEL VIENNA | Bildrecht YOUNG ARTIST Award 2024, operates in the in-betweenness, establishes connections, and liberates materials from the fixed forms of their existence.
She creates a visual and material language in a continuous process of emergence. Repetitions in forms and materials serve as a common thread while remaining temporary. Corners, edges, casts, and coatings are constantly evolving configurations in her work.
Only within the exhibition space do they find themselves in a moment of stillness—a brief pause within themselves. What happens next in the studio remains open. Not everything is neatly archived. Some things are melted down, rebuilt; others remain. An existence in the constant flux of the Extended Field of Sculpture¹ — artist and work at the same time.
Bildraum 01
In Vienna, once not far from the MuseumsQuartier and once directly in the heart of the Inner City, two exhibition spaces offer the best conditions for contemporary artists to position themselves in the cultural landscape.
While Bildraum 01 in Vienna’s Strauchgasse focuses on contemporary photography and graphic art, Bildraum 07 in Burggasse presents mainly painting, installation and object art.
