In the summer of 2026, Belvedere 21 will present a large-scale exhibition throughout its ground and upper-floor galleries, showcasing works acquired for the Belvedere collection over the past ten years. In keeping with the profile of the collection, artworks from all periods will be brought together in a spatial installation by Heimo Zobernig—a kind of Stellprobe, a staging rehearsal of sorts.
Collecting lies at the heart of the museum’s mission. The expansion of its holdings—from medieval to contemporary art—follows the collection’s profile while addressing gaps in art history. A key focus has been, and remains, the strengthening of women artists and other historically underrepresented positions within the collection.
This exhibition reflects these priorities and features historical and contemporary works in a display conceived specifically for the occasion by artist Heimo Zobernig.
Belvedere 21 – Museum für zeitgenössische Kunst
Belvedere 21 is a venue for contemporary art, film and performance as well as a social meeting place in an urban future area. In Karl Schwanzer’s adapted World’s Fair Pavilion, Austrian and international art from the 1960s to the present is shown on three light-flooded levels.
