Richard Prince (*1949) is one of the best-known contemporary representatives of Appropriation Art. Since the 1970s, the New York–based artist has explored the visual worlds of everyday American culture.

By appropriating existing images from advertising, subcultures, and mass culture, and by altering and recontextualizing them, Prince examines the myths and fictions that underlie mass-media imagery. Closely connected to this are questions of authorship, originality, and the mechanisms of media representation.
