The Setzkasten opens its doors and for the first time gives an exclusive insight into the sounding artifacts that have gathered in the boxes over the years. Whether created in workshops, built for exhibitions, or conceived as customized audiovisual instruments for live use – the smorgasbord ranges from self-etched circuit boards and galvanized, self-sufficient sound generators to welded machines and converted film equipment as well as misappropriated everyday electronics. Much of it has already been transformed several times or has been incorporated into the spatial structure of the workshop – all of it can now be viewed, played with and made to sound over two days as part of Wien Modern in compliance with the Corona measures.
