The first themed exhibition of the Heidi Horten Collection introduces the museum founder Heidi Goëss-Horten herself and focuses on portraits of women from the collection. With the founding of a museum institution from the holdings of a private collection built up over decades, the step from the private to the public naturally interferes with an existing order. In the case of the Heidi Horten Collection, this also means, particularly through the acquisition of contemporary works, recontextualizing the collection holdings and continuing lines of development through to current social discourses. LOOK thus offers an insight and perspective into the construction, but also the disconstruction of images of femininity.
