The exhibition Abendmahl is the final exhibition and concluding chapter of the new public art project LLLake, which will emerge in 2026 at Zaha Hadid Platz, directly adjacent to the newly redesigned northern shore of Seestadt Lake. In 2026 and 2027, Zaha Hadid Platz will become Seestadt’s central site for art and culture in public space.
The project begins on May 29, 2026, with the exhibition Breakfast in Blue.

The first staging of the site was realized as a collaboration between Bartosz Dolhun and Reinhold Zisser, with the intention of understanding the new location as a total installation within public space. Sculptural works and media installations merge fluidly with spatial displays and the overall architecture of the central container structure. The entire ensemble forms part of a temporary spatial intervention at Zaha Hadid Square, situated in the transition between undeveloped land and the permanent architecture of Seestadt planned for this location from 2028 onward.

LLLake is directly connected to the exhibition space LLLLLL, which has operated in Seestadt since 2024 as a venue for contemporary artists engaging with questions of public space. It is the first art space in Vienna explicitly dedicated to this subject. The work of Reinhold Zisser and the association LLLLLL, which he leads, traces back to projects initiated through Notgalerie, active in Seestadt from 2017 to 2020.

Over years of consistent work in the field of public art, close collaborations have developed not only among the artists involved in the project, but also with aspern Seestadt 3420 AG, the company responsible for the urban development project, as well as with residents of Seestadt and numerous other stakeholders connected to the development area.

Throughout the summer of 2026, the LLLake site will be expanded through exhibitions by several artists. The concluding exhibition Abendmahl, planned as part of Vienna Art Week, presents a curated selection of the projects realized between May and October. In addition to the main exhibition at the LLLake project site, a complementary exhibition featuring all participating artists will take place in the indoor exhibition space LLLLLL.

NAVIGATING ANGST:
Our projects in public space reflect public space itself as a field of our socio-political present. The artists Bartosz Dolhun, Anna Marie Lutz, Stefan Malicky, Johannes Milchram, Yehveniia Pavlova, and Reinhold Zisser, whose works will be presented in the exhibition, engage with this reality through different artistic strategies.
For the past ten years, Bartosz Dolhun has worked meticulously with reclaimed wood and a staple gun, creating oppressively precise objects from discarded furniture fragments, pallets, and other wooden remnants — using a tool that in everyday life serves only for temporary and fragile connections.
Yehveniia Pavlova, a young Ukrainian artist currently studying Site-Specific Art under Paul Petritsch at the University of Applied Arts Vienna, reflects in her work on the abysses of global energy politics and fossil fuel dependency. The artist describes her work as follows:

“(…) the work reflects the absurdity and self-destructive logic of petroculture — a civilization based on fossil energy. The recent escalation in Iran has been accompanied, particularly in Europe, by renewed rhetoric proposing a return to Russian energy supplies, thereby reproducing a vicious cycle of desperate energy dependence. At the same time, nearly all oil- and gas-exporting countries in the Middle East possess some of the world’s most vulnerable water systems and are increasingly exposed to ecological risks. This reveals the profound contradictions at the core of the fossil-fuel economy.”
